Channel changes
Seven is upgrading broadcast technology across Australia. On Wednesday 27th May 2026 there will be a further changes in Tasmania, South Australia and Darwin. This change may require that your TV is re-tuned.
Part of these changes is the removal of MPEG2 technology to be replaced with MPEG4.
MPEG4 enables broadcasters to improve the quality of the services they deliver to meet consumer demand.
The changes are as follows:
- Channel 7 (6)will become HD in MPEG4
- Channel 71 (61) ( will become HD in MPEG4
- Channel 72 (61) 7two will become HD in MPEG4
- Channel 74 (64) 7mate become HD in MPEG4
Will I need to re-tune my TV?
Changes should automatically appear in the channel list of most TVs. If not, then the first thing to do is to re-tune your TV. Most TVs have an option to automatically re-scan channels within the TV menu. In many cases, the channel changes will appear after completing this process. If you are unsure how to re-scan channels you should refer to your TV manual or contact the manufacturer of your TV.
About MPEG4 (version 10)
All major recognised brands of televisions, set top boxes and Personal Video Recorders (PVR’s) purchased since 2009, including any devices bearing the Freeview logo, will have this capability, but those bought prior to 2009 may not support MPEG4 (version 10). Some old receivers which have not been compatible during the introduction of the MPEG4 (version 10) service have included: -
- Schaub Lorenz Televisions
- Baumann Meyer Televisions
- NEC and Sherwood (re-badged NEC) Televisions
- Next Wave PVR’s.
If you are unsure if your current TV supports MPEG4 (version 10), you will need to refer to your TV manual or contact the manufacturer of your TV. If you’re unsure how to re-scan channels you should refer to your TV manual or contact the manufacturer of your TV.
How do I know if my TV doesn’t support MPEG4 (version 10)?
TVs that do not support MPEG4 (version 10) are most likely to demonstrate the following behavior:
Channels may appear in the channel list; however, the picture is black and the sound may or may not be heard.
